With a solid acting career to his merit, Daniels says he’s glad he doesn’t have to break into the public eye solely as a musician. “We can go from a jazzy thing to a bluesy thing to all of a sudden we’re playing bluegrass. “It’s kind of like the acting thing-you can’t pin me down,” he says.
He’s been touring for the last 12 years, and he’s played more than 300 gigs. Jeff Daniels, who appears as dynamic in real life as he is on screen, is performing in Asheville on May 18 with his son’s band, Ben Daniel’s Band, at Diana Wortham Theatre.Īlthough Daniels made his name as an actor, he says he’s equally passionate about playing guitar and singing. He’s blubbering Harry from “Dumb and Dumber” (and “Dumb and Dumber To”), but he’s also curmudgeonly Will McAvoy from “The Newsroom.” He’s written more than a dozen plays, and he’s also released six Americana albums.
